TikTok launches Lite in Spain, a new app that will pay users for watching videos

Tik Tok Lite is in the testing phase and aims to promote slow growth among older users.

Tik Tok has unveiled a new version of its app in Spain, TikTok Lite, which offers economic incentives to users for watching videos. This move aims to boost its slow growth rate among older users. The app, also launched in France, Japan, and Korea, is currently in the testing phase. Incentives have been activated only in Korea and Japan but not in Spain and France yet. The platform expects each user to earn about €1 daily. The new app, internally known as Coin App, was revealed by The Information. TikTok hopes to increase its popularity among older users through these incentives, which can be exchanged for tips for favorite creators or gift vouchers from Amazon, Paypal, among others. Tik Tok Lite will not be available to users under 18 years of age. The new app mirrors the original TikTok, distinguished only by a small lightning bolt on its logo and the word «Lite» on the home screen. TikTok Lite was previously launched in emerging markets with limited internet data availability as it uses less data. In Spain, the app will also use less data and will not have ads. Despite controversies and threats of ban, TikTok remains among the top three most downloaded apps in the US, while it struggles to stay in the top ten in Germany, France, Spain, and Italy
