Telefónica celebrates its first hundred years this spring. Pianist Lang Lang kicked off the celebration with a recital in Barcelona, home of the Mobile World Congress. A spectacular production of classical music, LED lights, drones, and holograms, made possible thanks to Telefónica’s powerful 5G network.
Renowned pianist Lang Lang kicked off the centennial celebrations for Telefónica with a recital at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Telefónica’s president, José María Álvarez–Pallete, emphasized the company’s history of innovation and its future vision of connecting people. The recital combined classical music with technology, featuring Lang Lang’s performance enhanced by sensors, LED lights, drones, and holograms connected to Telefónica’s powerful 5G network. The concert also included a unique audience interaction where attendees participated in artistic creation through their mobile phones.
The highlight was a technologically advanced experience blending the real and virtual worlds through a visual play of two pianos and two pianists – one real and one holographic. The centennial celebrations, which will continue with various events over the coming months, will culminate in a grand institutional event on April 19th at the Teatro Real in Madrid, followed by a charity concert for employees at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium on May 18th. Telefónica’s commitment to improving people’s lives through technology will be showcased throughout the celebrations. The Telefónica Foundation will also participate by inaugurating exhibitions and digitizing more than 60,000 pieces from the company’s photographic and documentary archives.
