Bluesky, one of X’s main rivals, is now accessible without invitation

The opening to the public has caused a barrage of tickets and the social network was down a couple of hours

BlueSky, the open source social network similar to Twitter, has opened access to anyone who wants to have an account, after its launch last year by invitation only. The social network was born from the idea of Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, in 2019 and became independent in 2021 with Jay Gruber as executive president. Currently, BlueSky has 3.6 million accounts, although not all are active. The platform works with an open and decentralized protocol, allowing users to create or adopt their own versions of the network.
