Can ‘La sociedad de la nieve’ contribute something to today’s school?

One of the basic foundations for making our classrooms a fabric of interactions is that their humanizing strength prevails

The High School Professor of Universal Literature, Albano de Alonso Paz, reflects on how the tragic story of the survivors of the plane crash in the Andes in 1972, portrayed in the film «¡Viven!» and more recently in «La sociedad de la nieve» by J.A. Bayona, can be applied to contemporary education. It highlights the «human factor» in both works, referring to the solidarity and cooperation necessary for survival. Paz maintains that this concept is also key in the classroom, where everyone can benefit from learning from each other in an environment of respect and mutual trust. He also criticises government policies that have failed to improve living conditions through education and defends the importance of public schools as a collective emancipation project. Finally, it calls for an education that encourages dialogue, respect, tolerance and solidarity, updating lessons according to the needs of each time
