Spain will experience a trio of eclipses unprecedented in modern history, between 2026 and 2028.

Two total solar eclipses in two consecutive summers, and a third annular one the following year, will provide a boost to tourism comparable to that of major sporting events

Spain is set to experience a rare astronomical event, with three top-tier eclipses scheduled to occur consecutively from 2026 to 2028. The first two will be total eclipses, while the last will be an annular one. Such a series of eclipses is a once-in-alifetime event, as on average, nearly 400 years need to pass for a total eclipse to repeat at the same location. The first eclipse, due on August 12, 2026, will be the first total eclipse in Europe since 1999, and Spain is the only country where it can be viewed with certainty. The second total eclipse will occur on August 2, 2027, and will have a longer totality phase and occur at a higher altitude over the horizon. The final eclipse, an annular one, will take place on January 26, 2028. The last time Spain experienced a similar succession of eclipses was in the early 1900s. The next total eclipse in Europe is not expected until 2053.
