This Chinese technique lowers stress more than cardio but is barely practiced in Spain

Almost 40% of the population in Spain has hypertension, a cardiovascular risk factor that can lead to heart attacks and stroke

A Chinese study published in the journal JAMA Open Network has found that Tai Chi may be more effective in reducing blood pressure in people with prehypertension than aerobic or cardio exercise. The researchers divided 349 adults with prehypertension into two groups, one practiced Tai Chi and the other aerobic exercise for a year. They found that Tai Chi’s group experienced greater reductions in their blood pressure. In addition, the number of people who developed hypertension in the Tai Chi group was lower than in the aerobic exercise group. This study suggests that Tai Chi may help prevent cardiovascular disease in people with prehypertension.
