The Canal de Isabel II exhibition hall in Madrid dedicates an exhibition to the half century of a trajectory marked by its approach to the great names of culture.
The actress Aitana Sánchez–Gijón, embodying the beauty of Grace Kelly with a scarf on her head and her hand resting on her bare shoulder; a vacant lot in the Bellvitge neighborhood of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), with a white building announcing «Cine Lumiere» against a backdrop of new buildings and cranes. These are among the images captured by Jordi Socías, a 79-year–old photographer from Barcelona, over the past 50 years. His work, which straddles street life and portraiture, is now on display in an exhibition titled «Al final de la escapada» at the Sala Canal de Isabel II in Madrid, open until April 21. The exhibition includes more than 80 photographs, both analog and digital, that Socías took during his career, which began in the early ’70s. Among his subjects are prominent cultural figures, historical events, and everyday life, all captured with his unique blend of irony and surrealism. The exhibition closes with his most famous portrait, that of Salvador Dalí, taken in 1979.
